Whenever you plan a camping trip make sure
that you have all the camping gear you will need. Who
knows what may happen during the trip and sometimes the
most unlikely thing to happen will happen. Therefore you
need to have a camping equipment list. To draw up such a
list, first of all think of the things you think you need
for the trip. After you brainstorm your ideas, split your
list into three categories like, non-essentials,
essentials and emergency. In terms of priority, emergency
items, like first aid kit, are first to be included then
essentials and then non-essential camping
gears.
After you have done that, estimate how
much each item will weigh. It is important you do this
because most people will overstuff their camping bags and
will also be too heavy to carry.
Here is an example of a camping gear
list:
Emergency Camping Gear
First Aid Kit – Depending
on where you going, each environment will need its own
unique first aid kit. For example, if you going to the
desert you will need a kit that will prevent heat stress
and protect you from snake or scorpion bite.
Emergency Bag – In case
you get lost in the middle of nowhere and the weather is
really cold, an emergency bag is very good in keeping you
warm and protecting you from the wind.
Dental Medic Kit – Who
knows, you may get your tooth knocked out and this would
be handy just in case if it happens.
Tube Tent – Tube tents
are usually inexpensive and small enough to easily fit in
your camping bag. They are good when your tent is damaged
and then use this as a quick replacement.
Signal Flare – If you are
travelling far away from civilization and in hard to see
places like rainforests or the jungle, this is required.
In case you get lost and you hear helicopters flying
above, use this to make people locate you fast. Most
signal flare comes in red and is 12 gauge.
Whistle – If you get lost
in the woods in the middle night or in a fog, a whistle
is an excellent way for people to locate you.
Flashlight – It is
absolutely required you have a flashlight with you.
Flashlight has two main functions during camping. It is
used for people to locate you and to see in the
dark.
Emergency Poncho – Get a
poncho that is made of plastic. There are very cheap and
light to carry.
Cellphone – Although your
reception can be out of range, all phones have an
emergency call button or can be used by search rescuers
for your cell phone signal.
Essential Camping Gear
Sleeping Bag – Make sure
you get a sleeping bag that is suited for the environment
you are going to. If you going to a place where it gets
below freezing level, buy a good quality sleeping bag
that is designed for those conditions. Also, try to avoid
buying secondhand sleeping bags because it sometimes has
holes in it that can make creepy crawlies climb into your
bag.
Rucksack Liner Dry Bag –
Use this prevent water from entering your sleeping
bag.
Backpack – Try to buy a
quality bag from a well known brand. The cheap brand can
break down very easily and can make your life difficulty
if one of your straps gets broken.
Compass/GPS – You will
need to know which direction you going and what your
current location is.
Food – Prepackage and
ready-to-eat freeze dried instant foods are excellent
because they are small, quick and easy to eat.
Pot/Pan, Cups and
Utensils – This absolutely essential to eat your
food unless you want to eat with your hands.
Stoves – There are a
whole range of stoves available from gas stoves to solid
fuel packs.
Water Tablets and
Purifiers – In case you run out of water and you
need to drink from a nearby water source, you need to
have water tablets and purifiers in hand. You need to be
careful where you drink because it can make you very sick
and dehydrated.
Tents – Buy a quality
tent that is especially suited to the environment. Most
budget tents are two or three season tents but the higher
quality ones can be used in any conditions.
Water Bottles – If you
going to a place where it is dry and with limited water,
get a large water bottle container.
Knives and Tools – Make
sure you bring a knife with you. You can get a decent
coghlan or swiss army knives from nearly all camping
stores.
Hygiene and Personal Care
– Depending on your personal taste, you can buy a
cleaning gel with aloe oil or just get plain soap. Bath
wipes and toilet paper can be bought from any
supermarkets.
Non-Essential Camping Gear
Axe or Saw – If you want
to build a campfire or build a small cover, an axe is
handy to chop any nearby wood.
